One Year Already

Today marks the day that started this endless cycle of feeling I must have somehow gotten sucked into an alternate universe. I watched in horror along with millions of others as terrorists exacted a horrifying attack on Israel in the Gaza strip, kidnapping and killing people and then parading around a truck with the mangled corpse of Shani Louk as if it were a prize. They fled off in vehicles to the safety of their hidey holes, taking so many unwilling captives as their hostage and leaving so many dead or injured behind.

I thought for sure Israel would enact swift and deadly justice while bringing their people home. So many "negotiations" and deadlines and some people are still gone. I thank God that at least some have been released, alive. But some have been found murdered and the rest are still unaccounted for. But it's been one year today. One year!

Thank God, I was not personally affected. But what grief, desperation and anguish those families and friends must still be feeling. Everytime in the last year that I've heard some kind of news story of a negotiation or deadline that does not result in the remaining hostages being returned safely has made me feel so angry!

Where is the outrage? It seems there's so many sympathizers for the terrorists! I just saw a video yesterday that showed some United States citizen celebrity, Macklemore, said, "Fuck America" at a pro Palestinian charity event. I mean, really, I have been saying this for years, but celebrities don't represent me. Doesn't matter what their stances are. A celebrity is very far disconnected from my world and reality. What they need to realize is that they need to just shut the fuck up and entertain. Anything beyond that, I don't care about.

Even if they came from humble beginnings instead of nepotism, they don't have the poor or middle class worries anymore. So they need to just go off enjoying their wealth and leave their ignorant opinions to themselves.

Things that make this millennial think I'm in the Twilight Zone:

  1. Growing up, patriotism was taught and common. Not anymore.

  2. Fiscal responsibility and the ability to budget for your house based on necessity or luxury was common and acceptable.

  3. Celebrities were mostly for looking at, not swaying elections or conflict opinions and their opinions were taken with a grain of salt

  4. Racism was not so common. Seriously!

There's more but I had to stop myself from creating such a huge list. I just miss the days in this country when people understood and acknowledged they would rather be here and are lucky to be here. We used to assimilate and celebrate our country. Instead, we apparently celebrate privileged assholes who do nothing to help our country, but trash talk it, while continuing to live here while they openly support murderers. Lot of hypocrites!

Because honestly, I can't afford to move, but they can. So if they want to say fuck America and voice their support for murderers and rapists, why don't they go live there? Why don't they use their money to go and help those countries and citizens directly? Serious question. Why don't they?

Oh and one last thought on this situation from me. If there are innocent people living there and some have been killed or are being held captive by Israelis, why are these innocent people not helping to pressure for release of hostages? We all have family, we should all be able to empathize. But they're not. Do we see a recurring theme when it comes to these religious extremists, yet? They all deny accountability and say they are innocent of other peoples' terroristic acts that were commited due to religious fanaticism. But they don't speak out against it, or show they're different or take a stand. Those hostages were literally snatched from their homes on a regular day. They have no reason to still have them, just like they have no reason to condone this or not take action. Those familes should be together, period!
